We just transitioned from Summer to Fall on the calendar and I find myself thinking about transitions. In my case, I recently learned I have a serious health condition. I have no symptoms and it was found by accident so I consider myself very fortunate because by the time you find out the hard way, your future is in more jeopardy.
The road to dealing with this and then the potential effects is daunting. I find myself at different times of day thinking everything is “normal” and then it hits me, things are not normal and will not be for a very long time. That type of transition I am finding is almost surreal. I know what is wrong and how we’ll deal with it but it most likely be life-altering and there does not seem to be any way to predict the exact end game. I don’t like that and my personality doesn’t meld well with that but I have no choice.
There is an element of emotional transition and an element of mental transition. I can think about the process, the steps, and the plans in an almost abstract way. I also find myself being upset, scared, and anxious. That is not normal for me and yet, I think this is one of the transitions I am going to have to go through – the ability to allow the emotions to surface and let my loved ones help me along the way.
I am looking toward the future and how my art journey has been critical to transitions in other parts of my life. I’m hoping I will be able to continue with my art and have it once again provide a fun and happy place for me to enjoy, in fact, I’m counting on it!
