Having Fun With Acrylic Paint!
For the Love of Traffic!

If you have been following my journey, you know recently I moved my studio into a new location. My new studio is only a couple of blocks from my old but what a dramatic change in the environment!
One of the motivations to move was to be in a building with other artists. Another was the hope that being inside a building with 4 galleries would increase my visibility to the people coming through.
Well, so far, it has been the latter that has surprised me the most! It is all about the traffic and just like a commute around certain times of the day/week, there are slower times and there are crowds and the same goes for my studio. On a recent “open studio” special evening (called 1st Fridays done each month), I had 45 people come into my studio to view my art as well as talk to me about my style and techniques. Even during the regular open gallery times, people are wandering through, and with my door open and my easel just outside, people are stopping in.
Overall, the ability to interact with other artists in adjacent studios has been less than I had hoped, with a few exceptions. It seems us artists are not a predictable or standard hours cohort – who would have guessed, HA! Maybe I am just not there at the right times to catch everyone.
I am very happy with the fact that my studio is doubling as a mini-gallery. I have had to adjust my setup so that I dedicate the front portion to displays and a bit of a retail feel but it is well worth it. People are coming in and buying my art and the best part is I’m getting a chance to interact with collectors and those who appreciate art as I share my journey.
